You just can’t go wrong with an easy, breezy and sweet, sweet, sweet mango salsa stashed in your recipe box! Especially with a salsa that has delicious fruits and veggies and goes with so many things.

Salsas are great to have on hand if you are wanting to eat healthier!

Eating healthier is such a daunting endeavor, especially in the snack department. I am a snacker! Having something crunchy to munch on throughout the day is so enjoyable. When I dove into a diet of mainly fruits, veggies, meats, and nuts, I missed my snacky, crunchy food. I have come to find that salsas and organic gluten-free chips are my saving grace.

When you think about salsas or guacamole dips, they are really one of the healthiest snack foods! Typically made out of just veggies and seasonings, they have plenty of nutrition for your body to absorb. Of course, the chips are where most of the unhealthy parts of a snack are, but when you commit to organic or all-natural chips this is something you don’t need to worry about.

In addition, when you make your own salsas at home the nutritional benefits keep increasing. As I talked about in my Easy Homemade Restaurant Style Salsa recipe post, why buy salsa at the store that has multiple preservatives in it, when it only takes about 10 minutes to make your favorite salsa at home?

Salsa has become my favorite healthy snack food!

Mango Salsa Pairings

Mango salsa is not only good on chips; there are a few heartier meals that it garnishes well. Try these three ways of enjoying mango salsa.

  • Try Mango Salso on a bed of lettuce with some shredded chicken
  • Mango salsa is a more simple version of a mango chutney which goes very well with salmon fillets
  • Fish tacos

Mango Salsa Ingredients

mangos, red pepper, jalapeno pepper, clinatro and mint leaves gathered together on a table.
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 small red onion
  • 3 small to medium ripe mangos
  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 3 tbsp of chopped cilantro (or parsley)
  • 2 tbsp of chopped mint leaves
  • 1 tbsp honey

Mango Salsa Two Ways

There are two ways that you can make mango salsa. I have made them both ways, and they are both delicious! It will depend on the consistency that you are going for. In the first picture below I have made the mango salsa in a chunky salsa consistency. The second picture below is the mango salsa in a puree-like consistency.

For the purpose of giving simple instructions, I will list the steps to make the chunky mango salsa, and leave a note at the end on how to make the mango puree. The process is basically the same except for one step.

Kitchen tools you will need

  • Cutting board
  • Knives
  • Food processor (for puree option only)
  • measuring spoons
  • mixing bowl

Steps to making mango salsa

  1. Wash all of the produce and dry off the cliantro or parsley leaves
  2. Peel the mango with a knife and shave off the meat of the mango until you get close to the core.
    • The core of mangos are kind of fuzzy and bark like. You will know you are getting close to the core when it gets tougher to cut. The sweetest part of the mango is the softest part. You can still eat the meat of the mango that is tougher but it will taste a little bitter.
  3. Chop shaved mango pieces.
  4. Chop the rest of the veggies and produce (red bell pepper, jalapeno, onion, cliantro)
  5. Mix all the chopped produce together in a mixing bowl
  6. Measure out the 1 tbsp of honey and stir it in with the other ingredients.
  7. Enjoy! Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour for best results.

*** For the puree option, follow steps 1-4. Then instead of mixing them in the bowl, put all the ingredients, including the honey, in a food processor. Pulse ingredients until they become a nice salsa consistency.

Enjoying these salsa recipes?

It wasn’t until I started making these posts did I realize how much my family eats homemade salsas! They are so healthy and refreshing, especially in the summer! What are some of your favorite salsa flavors? I am hoping to experiment with pineapple salsa once my garden tomatoes start ripening!
