Healthy and delicious

You, my dear readers, will soon learn that I have a passion for healthy food that tastes amazing! I love the benefits of eating healthy without compromising the tastes I love so much.

This delicious apple guacamole is just that! You get great fiber content and vitamins through the apples, as well as an excellent source of good fats through the avocado.

The pairing of apples and avocado you might not have picked out as a match made in heaven, but they are! Have you ever heard that avocado is like the new cheese? I can’t say I agree with that completely, but when it comes to how well it pairs with apples, it is!

If you have ever had apples and cheese together in a sandwhich, or a European dessert, you know how well they go together. The sweet and tangy flavor of the apple with the creamy and salty flavor fo the cheese make a perfect pair.

Avocado as a similar creaminess, and when tossed in lime juice, salt and some other ingredients you have yourself and amazing creation!

Can you use any apples?

Most likely, yes! I have only ever used Granny Smith apples, which are perfect for this dish. Granny Smith apples are one of the most tart and tangy apple. They always have a crisp texture, for a refreshing snap as you are devouring your apple guacamole.

Apple Guacamole pairings

As I stated above, you may not even need a bag of chips to enjoy this delicious apple guacamole! Here are a few ways to enjoy this yummy side dish:

  • On top of pulled pork tacos or fish tacos
  • Salad with rotisserie chicken
  • Eat with… a spoon
  • Taco or mexican bowls
  • Mixed with rice and beans
  • Chips to dip (of course).

Tools you will need

Your typical kitchen tools will do!

  • Cutting board
  • Knives
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing bowl

Ingredients

Like most of my cooking from scratch recipes, I usually will do everything to taste. That is the beauty of cooking from scratch that you can have the basic ingredients and make it to fit your own taste.

  • 3 medium to large avocados
  • 2 granny smith apples
  • 1 white onion
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 jalapeno
  • Lime juice to taste
  • Sea salt to taste

Instructions

  • Wash up all your produce.
  • Dice up the apples and onions.
  • Mix in your mixing bowl.
  • Chop up cilantro until it is fine and mix in with apples and onions.
  • Cut open your avocado and remove the pit. Cut up avocado either in the shell or after you have spooned out the avocado.
    • Here is an easy, mess-free way to slice an avocado: Very carefully while the avocado is still in the shell, slice the fruit part from top to bottom multiple times across, so there are many lines going up and down the avocado. Then slice across the avocado horizontally, so the avocado looks like it’s been cut into a grid. Then you can take a spoon, and dish out all the avocado and it is already cut up! No messy chopping necessary!
  • Mix in the avocado with the rest of the ingredients.
  • Squirt lime juice all over the mixture. Taste as you go along to get the flavor you want. The lime juice will help the apples and avocado from browning too quickly.
  • Mix in salt to taste.
